Dark Peak Light Orchestra Summer Concert

Updated: Oct 28

Join our community orchestra for a feast of music including great classics and music from stage and screen.

The concert has something for everyone, with an American theme running through it.

Dvorak's "New World Symphony", whilst firmly rooted in his native Czech traditions was heavily influenced by the music he experienced on his trip to America, including Indian pipe music. Copland's quintessentially American "Outdoor Overture" evokes the image of small towns on the prairie.

Moving to South America we have the ever popular of Piazzolla and one of our absolute favourites - a piece first heard in this country when it was performed by a Venezuelan Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall Proms the Latin America work "Danzon No. 2" by Marquez - you won't be able to resist dancing!

Programme:

Rossini: Barber of Seville Overture

Dvorak: New World Symphony (first and fourth mvts.)

Copland: An Outdoor Overture

Marquez: Danzon No. 2

Highlights from "The Sound of Music"

Piazolla: Oblivion
