Tuesdays 5.00-6.30pm at The Place, Glossopdale School

Choir of children singing and punching the air

A warm and encouraging welcome awaits children joining our choir.

Singing a wide variety of music — including pop, musical theatre, Disney, folk and classical — appropriate for their age and ability, children are given expert guidance on using their voices to help them develop good vocal technique. Emphasis is also placed on having fun, communicating emotion, story-telling, movement and breathing technique, encouraging a sense of well-being and confidence in themselves and their singing.

The choir is directed by professional opera singer and singing teacher, Claire Surman, who is supported by Rachel Steadman on piano. As qualified teachers and experienced musicians (as well as both being mums!), Claire and Rachel are ideally placed to help nurture the children's musical development, interpersonal skills and confidence.

All children are welcome, and there is no audition to join the choir. Children will not be required to sing on their own, although any child wishing to sing a solo will be given the chance to do so, as soon as they are ready.

Our rehearsals and concerts give children a wonderful opportunity to develop the important skills of fitting in and standing out; to shine as individuals, whilst also experiencing the rewarding sense of accomplishment from playing an important part in helping the whole group achieve.
