About our Orchestras

Updated: Jan 31

We run two regular weekly orchestras which provide the opportunity for strings, wind, brass and

percussion to work together exploring the rich and exciting symphonic repertoire.

Dark Peak Youth Orchestra

Mondays 6.15-7.15 at Glossopdale School -- for players grade 3+

Teenager playing a trumpet

The Youth Orchestra meets on Mondays, sandwiched between the Intermediate Wind Band and Strings and the Senior level chamber groups.

The youth orchestra aims to bring together players from all the groups from Grade 3 upwards to play great music for orchestra, including popular classics and lighter music inspired by stage and screen.

Dark Peak Light Orchestra

Mondays 7.30-900pm at Victoria Hall

Group of people playing violins

The Dark Peak Light Orchestra is our community orchestra offering a warm and friendly welcome to players of all ages.

With over 35 members it includes people of all walks of life and levels of ability, from professional level to players who are returning to playing after many years. In practice the recommended minimum entry level is about Grade 3.

The orchestra aims to play great music to the highest standard we can, but the emphasis is on friendship, inclusiveness, and well-being.

Recent programmes have included popular classics such as the Hebrides Overture and Smetana’s “Vltava” alongside selections of lighter music such as West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables.
