The biennial Summer Music Course and Concert Tour is the highlight of life in the Dark Peak Music Foundation - an experience which young people will cherish throughout their lives!

Our next adventure takes us to the beautiful city of Salamanca, known as the Golden City, in the heart of Spain.

A cathedral

Giving three performances in amazing venues, this will be an opportunity to explore this area of the “Real” Spain - steeped in history and tradition. As well as concerts we will have excursions to see some of the wonders of the region.

The trip is open to members of the Dark Peak Concert Band, Youth Orchestra and invited members of the Intermediate Wind Band (younger players approaching Grade 4 who are likely to be in the Concert Band by the time of the tour).

We also extend the invitation to  past members and members of our partner music centres.  Places will be offered on the basis of age, standard and the musical needs of the group. Repertoire will be carefully chosen to include a wide range of playing levels, with some pieces suitable for less experienced players. We aim to present a varied programme, including wind and string chamber ensembles.

An orchestra

The course will start with two days of rehearsals during the week preceding at home before setting off by coach to Spain where we will be staying at the Hotel Doña Brigida in the rural outskirts of Salamanca. The hotel is a short walk from the centre of Salamanca and has air conditioning, a gym and a beautiful swimming pool. This will be the perfect base for our concerts and trips out into the surrounding countryside.

Our Courier

We will be travelling with ACFEA Specialist Travel. We know from experience that they will give us fantastic performance opportunities with great audiences, 5-star travel and the very best restaurants.

Our Coach

We will be travelling by luxury 83-Seater Double Decker Coach with Sharpes (….let’s hope we have Greg and Monica as our drivers again!)

The Concerts

We will be giving three concerts.

Palacio Figueroa in Salamanca: A historic mid-16th century palace.

San Pedro Cultural Centre, Becceril de Campos: An extraordinary venue built on the ruins of the old temple of San Pedro from the 12th century and now used as a cultural centre and a centre for astronomy education.

Castillo de Tiedra: Located high on a hill this castle dates from the 12th century and hosts regular open-air concerts through the summer … a unique and magical performing experience.

Excursions and free time

As well as concerts there will be free time to explore in groups with organised trips including  Zamora Castle and Avila, a UNESCO World Heritage site regarded as the world’s finest example of a walled city with medieval castles and turrets. There will also be plenty of time to chill round the swimming pool .… and of course the Hotel Olympics, always one of the high-spots of the tour!
